SDG 6 – Indicator 6.5.1 – Water management educational opportunities
Improving the Awareness of the Local Community around the Musi River about Water Issues
Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI) service team conducted a joint service activity with the University of North Sumatra. This activity aims to overcome the problems of the Musi River, especially water governance, preservation of local culture, and ecotourism. This service activity involves the local community, who are residents around the Musi River. With this activity, it is hoped that local community participation in preserving the water area environment and creating a water-based creative economy can increase with better understanding and management of water.

SDG 6 – Indicator 6.5.2 – Off-campus water conservation support
Water Conservation through Proper Utilization of River Water
Water conservation is an effort made to maintain and safeguard water resources so that they are always available both in quantity and quality. Utilising river water properly and protecting rivers from pollution are examples of actions in water conservation. To support this, Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI) through community service activities conducted an educational programme related to water and water filtration to the people of Pemulutan Ulu Village, Ogan Ilir Regency who live depending on the river in the area. The activity carried out by the UNSRI Community Service Team also aims to educate residents around the UNSRI campus related to water hygiene, types of water, how to treat dirty water polluted by waste to how to store water properly.

SDG 6 – Indicator 6.5.3 – Sustainable water extraction on campus
River, “Embung”, and Groundwater as Water Sources in Universitas Sriwijaya
Sriwijaya University (UNSRI) has five artificial lake reservoirs on the Indralaya Campus that function to collect water and rain. The existence of these “Embung” can support the availability of groundwater in the campus environment. These five reservoirs have a total area of approximately 108.60 Ha. The water from the reservoirs can be used directly to water the plants around the reservoirs. Clean water sources in the UNSRI campus environment include “Perusahaan Daerah Air Minum” (PDAM), river water, and groundwater utilisation (aquifers). River water and groundwater are then processed using technology owned by UNSRI which is then used as a source of clean water. By utilising water from both sources, UNSRI has played a role in sustainable water extraction in the campus environment.

UNSRI Collaborates with USU in Raising Public Awareness of Water Management
Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI) is collaborating with another university in Indonesia, the University of North Sumatra (USU), in an effort to raise public awareness of water management around the Musi River. The main goal of the collaborative activity is to try to overcome the problems of water pollution, water area irregularities, housing arrangements, and natural disasters. With this activity, UNSRI has played a role in national collaboration on water security.

SDG 6 – Indicator 6.5.5 – Promoting conscious water usage on campus
UNSRI Active in Promoting Water Usage on Campus
Awareness of water use is important in improving water savings. Conserving water usage is a form of water conservation that can be done by all parties. Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI) also plays an active role in promoting conscious water usage on campus. This is done, for example, by placing water-saving stickers in several places on campus. These stickers are expected to raise awareness for those who read and understand them.
SDG 6 – Indicator 6.5.6 – Promoting conscious water usage in the wider community
Raising Public Awareness Related to Water through Community Service Activity
Water is a basic human need that is very important for survival. Maintaining the availability of water is the responsibility of all parties including universities. Sriwijaya University (UNSRI) as one of the universities located in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province, plays an active role in increasing public awareness related to water through community service activities. This activity aims to educate and increase community awareness around the UNSRI campus about water use, for example related to water hygiene, how to treat dirty water polluted by waste to how to store water properly.
