Universitas Sriwijaya provides scholarships for underprivileged students, carries out community
development programs and other support to local governments in order to alleviate poverty in
education access, promoting skills and sustainable livelihoods are the core focus areas of these
programs (SDGs Goal 1: No Poverty) thus reiterating university’s commitment for social and economic
transformation & equity among students, lecturers and academic staff in all dimensions.
SDG 1 – Indicator 1.3.1. Bottom financial quintile admission target
Universitas Sriwijaya is committed to expanding educational access for households in the bottom 20%
income bracket through the Bottom Financial Quintile Admission Program. To achieve this, Universitas
Sriwijaya has taken several steps, including providing admission pathways through scholarships for
underprivileged students and invitation-based admissions. Additionally, several scholarship options are
available after students are enrolled and identified as financially disadvantaged. Information about
these scholarships can also be accessed by students publicly, both on websites within Universitas

SDG 1 – Indicator 1.3.2. Bottom financial quintile student success
Universitas Sriwijaya is committed to ensuring equitable access to education and successful graduation for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly those in the bottom 20% of the household income group. In order to meet this standard, the university has set up a comprehensive tracking and support process over the course of cisterns’ academic careers. Periodic monitoring with relevant institutions for progress and challenges mid-course corrections is done in time.
Universitas Sriwijaya also carefully tracks data of students about to graduate, so that those who we need to support in order for them to pass can be identified and assisted. Together, these initiatives demonstrate the university’s commitment to Academic success for all students — whatever their starting point in terms of socioeconomic status, and a wider mission aiming to enhance social justice and equity within the education sector.

SDG 1 – Indicator 1.3.3. Low-income student support
In addition to scholarship schemes, Universitas Sriwijaya also provides support (e.g., food, housing, transportation, legal services) for students from low-income families to enable them to complete their studies. This support includes assistance in accessing affordable housing. Furthermore, as Universitas Sriwijaya operates two campuses, a shuttle bus service is provided at affordable prices, with some routes accessible free of charge. Access to nutritious and affordable meals is also facilitated to ensure students’ well-being and academic success.
Additionally, health access is also provided to students through affordable and convenient schemes, and even free of charge by utilizing BPJS facilities in collaboration with the government. This health access is available and well-facilitated at both campuses, Palembang and Indralaya, offering comprehensive services supported by advanced medical equipment and professional healthcare providers.

Programmes or initiatives to assist students who fall into the bottom 20% of household income group (or a more tightly defined target) in the country to successfully complete their studies. Universitas Sriwijaya implements this by providing scholarships specifically for students belonging to households in the bottom 20% income bracket. These scholarships are offered through various schemes in collaboration with multiple parties, including the central government, local governments, private companies, and international organizations.

Schemes to support poor students from low or lower-middle income countries (e.g. offering free education, grants). These include government funded programs such as tuition waivers and grants, financial aid in collaboration with international institutions, retail bodies and more. The Indonesian learners who receive these programmes are from lower socio-economic backgrounds, implementing part of Universitas Sriwijaya commitment on social inclusion and sustainable development to higher education access.
Along with the institutional scholarship, Universitas Sriwijaya is also qualified to receive a program from the government that is a very helpful college for those who are deservebal. These programs besides these financial aids, encourage and promote the major growth of capacity and quality higher education.
